I just saw this post over on Hip2Save that reminded me about this great program! I signed my daughter up last week. If you live in a qualifying area and have a child under 5, you can sign them up to receive a free picture book in the mail every month until they are 5! What a great way to get a young child excited about reading (who doesn't love mail?) and expand your picture book collection! There are no income restrictions, you just have to live in an area that participates in the program.
To find out if the program is operating in your neighborhood, visit the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library website here.

I think there is a link to this under "Literacy Links". My children have LOVED this program. They love getting books in the mail every month and I love that they are free!
We signed up for this a couple months ago, and it took a little bit to get our first books (I think its because we did it online instead of registering in our local office, so it took longer) but man are we glad we did! We just got our first books (its actually the one dolly is holding in her hand in the picture lol) and my son is soooo excited that he got something in the mail with his name on it! So we read it every night now. Him and my daughter got the same book, so I think its the same for each kid (though Im not sure. My son is almost 4 and daughter is 7 months, so it could just be because neither can read yet?). We just gave my daughters copy to my neice because they just signed up so they didnt get one this month and since we got 2 of the same one, we figured my daughter wouldnt notice if we gave it to her cousin lol
Its a wonderful program, and I love that it puts books in home that might not be able to afford something as simple as a few books otherwise. I know we appreciate it and Im glad its available to the public!
